Secondhand

A system re-designed to facilitate the growth of a small scale mending business

A business that keeps bags out of landfills

DayOwl-- a soft goods company and certified B corp-- sells new bags made from recycled plastic, and used bags that have been donated for repair.  The process of receiving, repairing, and reselling these used bags is known as “Secondhand”. During my time at DayOwl I personally ran this system and explored opportunities for upscaling the business.

Problem: How can we improve the Secondhand System?

Initial System

Identified Pain Points

Given the limited resources, there were too many pain points to solve effectively all at once. This lead to a problem reframe:

How can we improve Secondhand short term?

What Classifies as Short Term?

Narrowing Down

Solutions were identified by the the Secondhand team through experimenting with processes as well as conducting research. Ruled-out problems/solutions were considered ‘long term’ issues due to the required time, labor, and/or resources they would take to implement.
